West Coast Story: Day 1

Well, this day started off well. I would not recommend going out the night before anything important…oops!

I am currently sitting on a plane, flying across the country, running on 2 hours of sleep, and regrettably munching on overpriced airport food – but what else is new?

Today marks DAY 1 of my travel diaries for my trip to Vancouver! I am heading back to my home city to visit my family and friends, but most importantly, celebrate my brother’s high school graduation. I can’t believe how fast time is flying by. It feels like yesterday I was attending my very own ceremony and walking across that stage with a mix of excitement and bittersweet emotion.

I can only sit here wondering about all the memories I didn’t get to experience because I wasn’t “home”. It’s not a reflection of regret, but rather – these were some of my most rebellious years in high school, and missing out witnessing this in my brother makes me sad. My brother and I have a strong relationship; he is one of my best friends. This type of friendship doesn’t really happen when you are a young child because you’re both in this awkward stage of puberty. You don’t want to hang out, because you’re too cool or lame for the other. But as you grow older, you realize that you really are in this together. There will be no other to replace this role of my sibling. I know this isn’t every sibling relationship, so I am just thankful to have a brother with so much love and unconditional support in my life. I have no doubt that he is ready to take on this next step in his life, and can’t wait to share this experience with him!

Now back to this trip. I am really excited to take you around with me – today might be a bit of a write-off (refer back to my 2 hours of sleep). But I do have some exciting things planned for the remainder of my trip!

If you have moved out of your family home and now live alone, you know that returning back for an extended period of time can be a challenge. It’s almost as if I need another vacation after these so-called vacations. Nevertheless, I am excited to be reunited with familiar faces and loved ones. If you have never visited Vancouver – put that one on your bucket list because the various activities and sites to see are definitely worth the trip!

The adventure is just beginning, so stay tuned for whatever happens next! 🙂
